Mersin Tantuni

It is a registered, one-of-a-kind delicacy synonymous with the beautiful Mediterranean city from which it takes its name. Recognized throughout Turkey and around the world as one of the most distinctive street foods, this dish stands out for its unique cooking method and presentation.

Sıkma

Originating from the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, this traditional delicacy is one of the most beloved pastries of Yörük culture. Thin sheets of dough are rolled out and cooked on a griddle; a filling of curd, cheese, sautéed onions, or potatoes is typically added between the layers before the whole thing is rolled up. Usually enjoyed fresh off the hot griddle with a frothy glass of ayran or a cup of tea, this delicious treat is an indispensable part of the warm and welcoming Mediterranean table.

Cezerye

Named after the Arabic word “cezer” meaning “carrot” it is one of the city’s sweetest and most iconic symbols. It is prepared by carefully boiling fresh carrots, mixing them with sugar, and cooking until they reach the right consistency, then enriching the mixture with plenty of Antep pistachios, walnuts, or hazelnuts. Typically served to guests on special occasions, this traditional, energy-packed delicacy leaves a lasting impression on the palate with its soft texture and exquisite aroma.

Kerebiç

One of the city’s most time-honored and distinctive holiday sweets, it is a unique pastry made without syrup. The delicious outer crust, made with semolina, is typically filled with walnuts or Antep pistachios, shaped in special wooden molds, and baked in the oven. What truly makes this treat legendary, however, is the generous pouring of a light, creamy white sauce—known as “çöven köpüğü”—over the top of the pastry. This sauce is made by boiling the root of the çöven plant and whipping it with sugar until frothy.
